The story of Story Wine / Our Philosophy

We set up Story Wine in 2014 with the mission to bring beautiful wines from artisanal wineries in different corners of Italy to Hong Kong. Since late 2022 we decided to cease the retailing business. For now we are focus on experiencing wines: reading, hearing, tasting (tasting blind is most fun by the way) and sharing with friends.

Wine knowledge is both art and science and, a life-long learning and constant practice. For most of us we are at the less demanding role of tasting and consuming wines compared to the wine makers and grape growers. We have done our basics: we both obtained the WSET Level 3 certifications, and Gloria studied the one-year wine tasting and management diploma at Le Cordon Bleu Paris. Our experience of running a boutique wine retailing business - bringing wines directly from wineries in Italy and selling to wine lovers in Hong Kong - has been another valuable experience. We experienced the challenges of shipping, selling, and the general nuts and bolts of running a small business.

Some of what we wrote 9 years ago still rings true today! The journey to getting to know our winemakers is almost as fascinating as the winemakers themselves. They are all admirable and adorable in their dedication, talents and passion about making great wines and telling people about their wines. It is amazing all of them have made new wines from new or replanted vineyards over the years. The spirit of creativity is vibrant and exciting, as each time when we try the latest vintage and even a new wine.

Just as important is matching the right wine with taste preference, mood, occasion and the season. The wine description and serving suggestion for each wine in this website are our own words and views. Wines and we both mature as time goes by. We had some unexpected observations when opening a few bottles of wines that are supposed to be ready or past-ready, and still lively. Our perception of the wines also evolve. We want to share this in our blog from time to time.
